You may qualify for grant funding through the Hazard mitigation grant program or the severe repetitive loss grants if your home is in a presidentially declared disaster area or if you home has been flooded more than once in the last 10 years.  The grant process is usually slower than the rebuilding phase of your flooded home, so often it makes sense to lift your home's entire slab a few feet to get them above the newly established base flood elevation.  It's like pay it now or pay it later, because if it happened once it probably will happen again.  In my home town of Carencro we had two historical floods 3 months apart flooding freshly painted walls of the previous flood.  It was a nightmare for the homeowners and they lived it twice in less than a 4 month period.  Don't let yourself worry the next time a hurricane enters the gulf and mitigate the hazard by getting your home's slab lifted above the base flood elevation.
